Ok… I haven’t been around much for quite a while, and it doesn’t look like I’ll be coming back any time soon.
I’d like to take this time to thank Advanced and the rest of the Lumenaries™ crew for all the fun I had playing with the guild. You are all the best!
On a side note, I’ll be logging on and selling/giving away all my gear, then donating the funds to the guild.
Play hard, have fun, and perhaps one day I’ll see you all again!

For those of you who have been following along, I’ve been collecting the daily economic trends of the Novus Sector Server. Every day at 9:30 am PST (USA), I’ve logged in, checked the tax and exchange rate, and then calculated the value of selling gold vs buying gold.
Here are the results of my finding:
As you can tell from the charts, it’s never a good time to purchase gold, as it’s value is always much higher than what you’d get from selling it.
It appears that the formulas used by the server for calculating the value are as follows:
- Selling gold: Service Fee + (Exchange Rate - (Tax Rate * Exchange Rate))
- Buying gold: Service Fee - (Exchange Rate + (Tax Rate * Exchange Rate))
It’s the transposition of the ± symbols in the (Exchange Rate + (Tax Rate * Exchange Rate) part of the formula that make it impossible to make money by playing the market.

Well things should be slowly getting back to normal now, The guild just returned from meeting up in northern england for a week. Christmas and new year celebrations are over with so we should be able to settle back into our routines soon, as much as it pains us to do so

The website was down for a day or so (you probobly noticed that).
There has been a few issues with my webhost, and I did something incredibly stupid… so between the two, the site was down.
It appears that everything is fixed now though, so hopefully we’re good to go.

I’ve been tracking the Novus Sector economy for the past two weeks and only today discovered that something is brutally wrong with it.
I’ve posted a thread on the Novus Sector forums here.
In a nutshell, DO NOT buy gold when it’s low if you expect to make a proffit by selling again when the value is high. The value of buying gold, even at it’s lowest, is always higher than the value of selling it.
I believe that this is because the calculations the game use are either incorrect, or you were never meant to be able to make a profit by playing the market.
